The next cycle of IPL has begun already. Franchises are talk about the different players for the possible teams retain in IPL. BCCI has already set the ground rules for the IPL 2025 auction. Franchise owners are unclear about their belief that there is come continuity in terms of players, but BCCI will take call on IPL auction structure and new set of rules by 1st week of September.

IPL 2025 Auction Venue

The IPL 2025 auction has not confirmed yet. The action is held in main cities in India. This year the IPL event will follow the same pattern, with matches scheduled to held in home grounds of team. In IPL 2025, the matches will played in home and away format.

IPL retention slabs: How do they work?

According to the IPL 2025 auction rules, the franchise are allowed to retain maximum 5 capped players ( Indian /Overseas), maximum 2 uncapped players. Every uncapped player are able to retain, with valued up to 4 crores and this amount will subtracted from total pursue for every team. The total purse valued at INR 120 crore for IPL 2025 season. The five capped player retentions are valued as follows.

Here are the imaginary scenarios, according to the retention rules for the IPL auction 2025

Scenario 1: Team A retains 6 players (5 capped + 1 uncapped)

In this case, the total 79 crore will deducted from pursue. Team A will get the 41 crores to spend on the auction table. It retains up to 6 players and have no RTMs

Scenario 2: Team B retains 5 players (4 capped + 1 uncapped)

In this case, total 65 crores will deducted from purse. Team B will get 55 crores to spend on the auction table. It retain up to 5 players, have one RTM to try. It brings back together existing players when he comes to the auction

For the another scenario, the auction purses deductions that are mentioned are minimal. It will go down further. For example, the team has chosen to pay the retained player 20 crores, above the bracketed value, and have an additional 2 crores slashed off their purse

IPL 2025: Players Category

According to the IPL auction 2025, there are the different categories of players has been set. Let us make look at these categories.

Capped Players

Players who are part of the senior team of the country in any format and played at least once in IPL are considered capped players.

Uncapped Players

Domestic Players who have played the 1st class cricket circuit but do not represent India are referred to as uncapped players.

Overseas, Non-Indian Players

Overseas and Non-Indian players are part of international teams. The category in which players are fall are not matters in this category. IPL team only able to retain a maximum eight foreign players to field in IPL 2025

Impact Player rule

Impact Player rule is become super hit in IPL 2023 and 2024 year. The likes of Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dube, and Ashutosh Sharma made a great impression. However, with the virat kohli and rohit Sharma and other indian cricketers voice their opinion against it, and BCCI has reviewed to decide whether they continue with Impact player or not. Some franchise are in favor and some are against it.

This is one of the reason why BCCI is reviewed whether they try it once again in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.

RTM brought back

BCCI has reintroduced the Right to Match option for the IPL 2025 auction and allows the franchise to match the highest bid for players who play in previous IPL matches. The option was introduced for Mega auction 2017 but scrapped ahead of the 2022 auction. The rule is reintroduced after at least 3 franchises argued in favor of it. MI, KKR, and SRH are said to have argued that they want 7-8 RTMs during the IPL auction.

The rule has changed this year to give the highest bidder and give more chance to change bid for player before team holds RTM card and practice bid.
